Angelina Jolie became emotional as her film 'Maria' received an 8-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival

Venice [Italy], August 30: Pablo Larrain's biographical drama *Maria*, starring Angelina Jolie, made a significant impact at the Venice Film Festival with its world premiere, earning an impressive 8-minute standing ovation.

Jolie made a striking appearance at the event on Thursday night, dressed in a custom beige gown with a fur stole.

Alongside Jolie, director Larrain and cast members Pierfrancesco Favino and Alba Rohrwacher were present.

Following the screening, the audience in the Sala Grande was deeply moved and chanted Jolie's name. Jolie, visibly touched, was seen wiping away tears and occasionally turning away from the crowd as she was overwhelmed by the response. Pierfrancesco Favino comforted her during this emotional moment, while Larrain came down from the gallery to acknowledge the audience.

The film, based on real events, portrays the life of Maria Callas, one of the most celebrated opera singers, focusing on her final days in Paris during the 1970s.

This film is Larrain’s third portrayal of a renowned woman, following *Jackie* in 2016 and *Spencer* in 2021, both of which also premiered in Venice.

Earlier that day, Jolie discussed her preparation for the role of Callas, her first time performing as a singer. She shared her experience of rigorous training, saying, "Everybody here knows, I was terribly nervous. I spent almost seven months training because when you work with Pablo, you can't do anything by half. He demands, in the most wonderful way, that you really do the work and you really learn and train."
