"I am not happy," says Lovlina Borgohain on Missing Out on a Medal at the Paris Olympics.
Paris [France], August 7 : Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain expressed her dissatisfaction after failing to secure a medal at the Paris Olympics. In the quarterfinal match on Sunday, Lovlina lost to China’s Li Qian in the women's 75 kg category with a score of 4:1.
At a press conference at the India House, Lovlina conveyed her disappointment, stating that her expectations were not met. She acknowledged the need to accept the result and focus on coming back stronger for future competitions.
"What I expected didn’t happen. I am not happy since I have not achieved what I aimed for here. But I have to accept it and hopefully come back stronger next time," Lovlina said.
The 26-year-old boxer, who was confident about winning a medal, mentioned that she had prepared extensively over the past four years and had hoped to improve her medal standing from the previous Olympics. "I didn’t leave anything behind in my preparation. I was very confident that I would change my medal's color this time, but it didn’t happen," she added.
Lovlina lost the first two sets of the match with a split decision of 3:2 in favor of Li Qian, and the final round ended 4:1, leading to her defeat with an overall score of 1:4. This loss concluded India’s boxing campaign at the Olympics.
Regarding fellow athlete Manu Bhaker, Lovlina expressed happiness for her achievements. "I am very happy that Manu Bhaker won two medals. Winning two medals in a single Olympics is a significant achievement for India. I wish her a bright future and thank her for accomplishing what we couldn’t," she said.
At the Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker started India’s medal tally with a bronze in the individual 10m air pistol event and later secured a gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh.
