Bumrah expressed his desire for Akash Deep to progress and improve after showcasing impressive speed and intensity while bowling against Bangladesh.

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), October 1: Jasprit Bumrah, India’s star pacer, expressed optimism that his teammate Akash Deep will continue to improve after their significant victory in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Tuesday.

Despite losing over two days of play due to rain and a wet field, the Indian players put in a strong effort, achieving a 7-wicket win on a sunny day in Kanpur.

Throughout the series, India’s leading bowlers stepped up when needed, but it was the young Akash Deep who made a notable impact, bowling with great intensity and skill.

Bumrah had the opportunity to observe Akash's performance against a determined Bangladesh side. He noted that Akash often approached him for advice before matches, leading to many "interesting conversations" as Akash prepared to showcase his talents.

"He (Akash Deep) frequently comes to me before a spell and asks, 'What’s happening and what should I do?' We've had many engaging discussions, and the energy he brings when he bowls, along with his heart, is a promising sign for us moving forward. I hope he continues to progress," Bumrah said after the match.

In the two Tests, Akash consistently hit the right areas and ended the series with five wickets.

The Green Park pitch changed significantly throughout the five days, with the weather heavily influencing the game. Once the rain cleared, it became challenging for the pacers to make the most of the conditions.

Bumrah relished the challenge when the pitch didn’t suit his usual style of play. "I enjoy the challenge of adapting to unfavourable conditions. How do you find solutions when the wicket isn’t conducive? These battles are something I really like. We have played a lot of cricket in India, and while the SG ball can reverse, humidity can make it hard to keep the ball dry. You have to find solutions and discuss strategies with your teammates," he added.

"It tested our fitness, especially given the heat, as we bowled every day and aimed to make an impact. It was a really special win. You rely on your experience, but it's easier said than done. You quickly communicate with others to find the best approach, as this pitch was completely different from what we encountered in Chennai," he noted.

In the end, as India pushed their limits and redefined Test cricket, Bumrah emerged as the joint leading wicket-taker in the series with 11 wickets.

While Bumrah has earned a reputation as a "magician" with the ball, he remains focused on the team's performance rather than titles. "It feels great. I don’t dwell on those titles (like being called a magician). Winning is what matters, especially after losing a couple of days," he said.

After the series, India will play a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh before hosting New Zealand for three Tests this month.
