President Murmu congratulated Neeraj Chopra for winning the silver medal in men's javelin at the Paris Olympics.

Paris [France], August 9: After Neeraj Chopra's silver medal win at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, President Droupadi Murmu praised the Indian javelin thrower, noting that his achievement would inspire future generations.

Chopra, who finished with a best throw of 89.45 meters, was unable to retain his gold medal due to four consecutive fouls. Despite this, he became the second male athlete from post-independence India to win two Olympic medals in an individual event.

President Murmu congratulated Chopra, emphasizing the pride India feels in his accomplishments. She said, "Heartiest congratulations to Neeraj Chopra on winning the silver medal at the Paris Olympics and making history. He is the first Indian athlete to win a gold and a silver medal in two successive Olympic Games. India is proud of him. His feat will inspire generations to come. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju joined in the congratulations, noting Chopra's impressive throw of 89.45 meters.

Chopra's first and third attempts were invalidated by red flags, and his final three attempts were fouls. Despite a strong performance in the qualification round, where he threw 89.34 meters, his 89.45-meter throw in the final was his second-best effort but not enough to secure gold.
