Chennai Test: Indian bowlers limit Bangladesh to 112/8 at Tea.
Chennai (Tamil Nadu), September 20: A remarkable bowling performance by the Indian bowlers limited Bangladesh to 112 runs for the loss of eight wickets at Tea at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday.
At Tea, Bangladesh stood at 112/8 after 36.5 overs, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz remaining not out on 12. They still trail by 264 runs.
The second session resumed with Bangladesh at 26/3, featuring Najmul Hossain Shanto (15*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (4*) at the crease. However, they managed to add just 10 runs before Shanto was dismissed for 20 runs, hitting three fours.
Mushfiqur was next to go, caught by Jasprit Bumrah in the 13th over for eight runs, leaving the score at 40.
Following these wickets, Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das formed a partnership, adding 50 runs by the 28th over to take the score to 90/5. However, both were soon dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja, with Das scoring 22 runs off 42 balls and Shakib contributing 32 runs from 64 balls.
Bangladesh reached the 100-run mark in the 33rd over with five wickets down, as Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud remained at the crease.
Just before Tea, Bumrah took the final wicket of Hasan Mahmud, who scored nine runs, leaving Bangladesh at 112.
Earlier, India resumed their innings in the morning with Ravichandran Ashwin (102*) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*) at the crease, starting from 339/6. The team was eventually bowled out for 376 runs.
Jadeja added just four runs before being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed for 86, after an impressive 199-run partnership with Ashwin.
Ashwin was the last to be out, scoring 113 runs off 133 balls, featuring 11 fours and two sixes. Bumrah fell to Hasan Mahmud, concluding India’s innings at 376, with Mahmud achieving a five-wicket haul, the first for a Bangladesh bowler in Test matches in India.
In addition to Mahmud's five wickets, Taskin Ahmed took three, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nahid Rana took one each. Bangladesh began their innings trailing by 376 runs, with openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan.Â
Bumrah struck early, dismissing Shadman for a duck on the last ball of the first over. Akash Deep then took two wickets in consecutive balls, leaving Bangladesh at 22/3 in 8.2 overs.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto took the team score to 26/3 by the end of the first session on day two.
