The ICC has given a "satisfactory" rating to New York's proposal for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match

New Delhi [India], August 21 : The ICC has rated the pitch and outfield for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match in New York as "satisfactory."

The eagerly awaited match between these two rivals at Nassau County International Stadium in New York turned out to be a low-scoring thriller. After being dismissed for 119 runs, with Rishabh Pant contributing 42, Pakistan could only manage 113/7 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah's game-changing spell of 3/14 in four overs.

The drop-in pitches in New York faced scrutiny throughout the tournament due to low scores and inconsistent bounce. In the Sri Lanka-South Africa match, Sri Lanka only managed 77 runs in 19.1 overs, while South Africa successfully chased the target in 16.2 overs.

Following India's game against Ireland, where Rohit Sharma retired hurt after being hit on his hand, the ICC acknowledged that the pitches at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium had not been as consistent as hoped. 

On Tuesday, the ICC released pitch and outfield ratings for the competition. The pitch used in the India-Ireland match was rated "unsatisfactory," while the pitch for the India-Pakistan match received a "satisfactory" rating.

The Nassau County pitch in New York was rated "unsatisfactory" for the Sri Lanka-South Africa match, and the pitch at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, used for the semifinal between South Africa and Afghanistan, also received an "unsatisfactory" rating. In that semifinal, Afghanistan was dismissed for just 55 runs in 11.5 overs, and South Africa chased it down in 8.5 overs.

Out of eight matches held in New York, six had pitches rated "satisfactory." The highest score in New York during the tournament was 137/7 by Canada against Ireland.

The ICC receives ratings for wickets and outfields from match referees after every international game. According to the ICC, "If a pitch or outfield is marked as substandard, the relevant Home Board and the venue must explain why the pitch and/or outfield did not meet the required standards."

"A pitch or outfield is considered substandard if it receives a rating of unsatisfactory or unfit. Sanctions may be imposed by the ICC on a venue presenting a substandard pitch or outfield for international cricket," as per ICC regulations.
