John Chambers predicts that India's GDP will surpass China's by the end of this century.
New Delhi [India], October 14: At the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Annual India Leadership Summit in New Delhi on Monday, John Chambers, Chairman of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, praised the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chambers stated that the current Indian administration has laid the groundwork for growth not only for the next five years but for the next twenty-five years. He believes that by the end of the century, India, as the fastest-growing economy in the world, will surpass China in terms of GDP.
"I think when you look at this country, what’s going to happen, in my opinion, by the end of this century, it won’t just be India’s century; India will be literally 100 percent bigger than China in GDP," Chambers said.
He commended the Indian government’s efforts over the past five years, attributing the groundwork for India's future economic growth to the administration. Chambers highlighted India's significant transformation and digital progress, particularly in technology and artificial intelligence.
"For the first five years, I would argue, this administration did an amazing job of setting the stage for the decade and being the fastest-growing economy in the world for the next five years. I think they set the stage for the next 25 years," he noted.
Chambers emphasized that the government's Digital India initiative represented not just a vision but a strategic understanding of the global market's direction, with a strong emphasis on utilizing technology and AI for future growth.
"And if you watch Digital India, it was not just a dream. It was an understanding of where the market would go and how to use technology and AI together for the future," he explained.
He added, "Remember, just 10 to 12 years ago, there were very few startups in India. In the last period of time, from 2015 to 2022, investments in startups increased by 15 times, laying a foundation not just for the next five years but for the next 25 years."
Regarding India's economic outlook, Chambers predicted that per capita income and living standards would rise more rapidly in India than in any other country. He stated, "Per capita income growth and the standard of living will grow faster in this country than anywhere else in the world during this period, and India will be 33 percent larger than the US. However, the primary challenge now lies in execution."
