NSUI Launches Statewide "Save Girls, Save Sisters, Save Maharashtra" Signature Campaign Following Shocking Incident in Badlapur
Mumbai, August 29, 2024: The Maharashtra unit of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) today launched a major statewide signature campaign, "Save Girls, Save Sisters, Save Maharashtra," in response to a deeply disturbing incident involving the sexual assault of two four-year-old girls at Adarsh Vidyamandir in Badlapur, Thane district. This campaign, inaugurated by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Nana Patole, was announced at a press conference held at the Congress office in Mumbai.
The horrifying assault has sent shockwaves across the state, triggering widespread outrage among the public. Disturbingly, it has come to light that the school where the incident occurred has affiliations with the BJP and RSS. The victim's mother further revealed that she was detained at the police station for eleven hours, during which time no formal complaint was registered, raising serious concerns about the state administration's handling of the case.
NSUI Maharashtra, under the leadership of State President Aamir Sheikh, has demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Minister and Home Minister, citing their failure to protect the safety and dignity of girls and women in the state. The signature campaign aims to mobilize public support for this demand by setting up booths outside colleges and educational institutions across every district in Maharashtra.
During the press conference, PCC President Nana Patole expressed his deep anguish over the incident and emphasized the need for accountability at the highest levels of government. "This shameful act has exposed the apathy of those in power. We demand that the Chief Minister and Home Minister step down immediately for their failure to ensure the safety of our children," Patole stated.
The NSUI will distribute letters to students, urging them to participate in the campaign by signing petitions, which will be collected and sent to the offices of the Chief Minister and Home Minister. The campaign will be spearheaded by district officers and district presidents, with full support from Congress and NSUI officials.
The press conference was attended by prominent leaders, including Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Nasim Khan, Legislative Council Member Abhijeet Wanjari, Youth Congress National Secretary Surbhi Trivedi, and several NSUI leaders, including Social Media Department President Abhijeet Haldekar, State General Secretary Sahil Khan, Navi Mumbai NSUI President Malhar Deshmukh, Kalyan Dombivli NSUI President Rohit Kadam, and State Member Rohit Dhekale.
The "Save Girls, Save Sisters, Save Maharashtra" campaign will officially begin tomorrow, with the NSUI vowing to continue its efforts until justice is served and accountability is established.
