ReNew has stated that reports claiming the abandonment of the Nagpur project are misleading and incorrect.
New Delhi [India], September 19: ReNew, a major player in renewable energy, issued a statement on Thursday refuting recent media reports from Nagpur. The reports incorrectly claimed that ReNew had "abandoned" its proposed project in Nagpur due to "unrealistically high power tariffs" and unproductive discussions with government officials. They also suggested that ReNew was shifting its investment from Nagpur to Dholera in Gujarat.
ReNew denounced these reports as "misleading, factually incorrect, and irresponsible." The company emphasized that it is focusing on solar manufacturing investments within Maharashtra and is not pursuing similar projects in Gujarat or other states.
The company remains a significant investor in Maharashtra, where it has an installed capacity of 550 MW and an additional 2,000 MW under construction. ReNew plans to install 2,000 MW by 2025-26, with investments totaling Rs 15,000 crore. It is also exploring the establishment of green hydrogen manufacturing and pumped hydro storage projects in Maharashtra, which are expected to generate around 30,000 jobs.
ReNew supplies 550 MW of power to Maharashtra Discom MSEDCL at competitive rates and plays a crucial role in the state's clean energy sector, with investments nearing Rs 100,000 crore.
ReNew affirmed its commitment to Maharashtra, highlighting its substantial role in the state's clean growth. As of August 15, 2024, ReNew's contracted portfolio stands at 15.6 GW. In addition to being a leading independent power producer in India, ReNew offers comprehensive solutions in clean energy, digitalization, storage, and carbon markets, addressing climate change effectively.
