Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis has been named the ICC Player of the Month for September 2024.

Dubai [UAE], October 14: Sri Lanka's rising star Kamindu Mendis has been named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for September, as announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.

Mendis had a stellar month, playing in four Tests and amassing 451 runs at an average of 90.20. His performances included two centuries, helping his team to a win at The Oval in England and securing a series victory against New Zealand in Sri Lanka.

Mendis became the first men's player in 2024 to win the ICC Player of the Month award twice, having previously won in March. He surpassed tough competition from his teammate Prabath Jayasuriya and Australia's Travis Head.

Expressing his gratitude, Mendis said, "I am honoured to be chosen as the ICC Men's Player of the Month again. This recognition motivates me to continue my good work on the field and aim for greater achievements to help my team and make our fans proud."

During September, Mendis achieved historic feats, including becoming the first men's player to score fifty in each of his first eight Test matches. He also reached 1,000 Test runs in just eight Tests, matching Don Bradman's record of achieving the milestone in 13 innings. His standout performances included an unbeaten 182* and a crucial 114 in challenging conditions, both contributing significantly to Sri Lanka's victories.

In eight Tests so far, Mendis has scored 1,004 runs at an average of 91.27, with five centuries and four fifties in 13 innings. His highest score remains 182*.
