Brazil has lifted the ban on Elon Musk's X after the company settled millions of dollars in fines.

California [US], October 9: Elon Musk's X platform faced restrictions due to a dispute over misinformation, but the Brazilian Supreme Court has now lifted the ban on the social media platform, according to a report by Al Jazeera on Wednesday.

"I authorize the immediate return of the activities" of X, ruled Judge Alexandre de Moraes after the company paid millions in fines for not complying with several court orders.

The judge gave the Brazilian communications authority a 24-hour period to restore access to the platform.

Elon Musk, the world's richest person and a self-proclaimed "free speech absolutist," has yet to respond to the ruling, as noted by Al Jazeera.

Previously, Judge de Moraes made the controversial decision to ban X in Brazil after Musk failed to comply with court orders to remove accounts allegedly spreading false information.

Additionally, the social media platform missed a legally required deadline to appoint a legal representative in Brazil, as reported by Al Jazeera.

Musk owns both Starlink and X, and it was reported that Starlink personnel initially claimed their internet service would not adhere to the restrictions imposed by the court on X.

Following the court's decision to shut down X, Musk referred to de Moraes as an "evil dictator." He also expressed sympathy for supporters of Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil's former right-wing leader, who spread unverified claims regarding the October 2022 election, which he lost.

Supporters of Bolsonaro later stormed the nation's legislature on January 8, 2023, demanding a military coup to reverse his defeat.

Since then, Bolsonaro has been barred from holding public office until 2030, and, similar to Musk, he has had conflicts with Justice de Moraes over investigations into his conduct.
