Delhi coaching center tragedy: Students to hold 'Nukkad Natak' to protest and demand compensation
New Delhi [India], August 5 On Monday, the protests outside the coaching institutes in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, entered their ninth day. Students are calling for compensation from both the government and Rau's IAS study circle following the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants due to flooding in the coaching institute's basement.
In an interview with ANI, Akansha, one of the students, mentioned that it was the tenth day of their protest. On Monday at 6 p.m., they plan to introduce a new form of demonstration, a 'Nukkad Natak' (street play), to highlight their demand for justice.
"This is our tenth day of peaceful protest. Starting at 6 p.m. on Monday, we will begin a new protest with Nukkad Natak to illustrate the justice we are seeking," Akansha stated.
Another protester, Himanshu, emphasized the need for the government to address the students directly and update them on the actions taken.
"We have prepared a draft of our demands. The government must publicly disclose what actions have been taken in front of all UPSC aspirants. The Delhi Police's investigation has been inadequate, and the response to our demands has been sluggish. There should be accountability for those responsible, and students should receive financial compensation," he said.
Himanshu also stressed the need for the government to provide a firm assurance of action against those at fault.
"The state government has promised that steps will be implemented, but we want to see real action," he added.
Earlier on Sunday, the protesters called for the immediate release of the draft of the Delhi Coaching Educational Centre and Regulation Act for review and amendments.
Additionally, on August 2, Delhi Minister Atishi announced that the AAP government and MCD would each provide Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased students. A library will be established in memory of the three students, and AAP MP Sanjay Singh will donate Rs 1 crore each. The Delhi government will also create regulations for coaching institutes.
