Delhi police have captured a 39-year-old life convict who had jumped parole, in Kolkata
New Delhi [India], August 6 : The Delhi police's Crime Branch has apprehended a 39-year-old life convict and parole violator from Kolkata in connection with a kidnapping and ransom case involving a four-year-old, according to Delhi police Crime Branch officials on Tuesday.
The convict, 39-year-old Tobir Ahmed, also known as Tabir, is from Bihar. A case against him was filed at Nabi Karim police station in the capital in 2008. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor and fined, and was released on emergency parole. He was supposed to surrender by April 7, 2024, but failed to do so after his parole ended.
Authorities received confidential information indicating that the parole violator was residing in Pragati Maidan, Kolkata, West Bengal, and was frequently changing locations. This information was confirmed by Tihar Jail, according to the statement.
Surveillance was set up to track the accused's movements. A team was dispatched to Kolkata, and after a thorough search based on the confidential information, they successfully arrested Tobir Ahmed, the statement from Delhi police Crime Branch officials added.
