In an interview with Mid-Day, the actor shared, "Every character has a look. Your physique should be closer to that of the character. So, I didn’t feel I was ready for this role." He added, "First I said yes, but then I got scared if I would be able to pull it off. I feel in this film, I worked harder on losing weight than on acting."

Talking about the same, Anubhav Sinha said, "If these films had twice or thrice as much budget to promote them, our jobs would be much easier. The audience is waiting for 'Assi', not specifically 'Assi', the cinema, but a movie like 'Assi'. On the previous occasions, we didn’t serve it to them conveniently."
