New Delhi (India), October 22: Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Singapore's Minister of Defence, has commenced a three-day visit to India. As part of his itinerary, he co-chaired the sixth India-Singapore Defence Ministers' Dialogue in New Delhi alongside his Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh.
The summit began on Tuesday morning, with Singh warmly welcoming the Singaporean delegation. He emphasized that the strategic partnership between the two nations serves as a "testament to the growing closeness between our countries."
Singh remarked, "This meeting is occurring at a time when India is celebrating a decade of its Act East Policy, in which Singapore has played a significant role in enhancing economic cooperation, cultural connections, and establishing strategic ties with our institutions."
Dr. Ng Eng Hen echoed Singh's sentiments, stating, "You reminded us that this year marks the 10th anniversary of your Act East Policy. From Singapore's perspective, India has always been part of the East. Regardless of whether you choose to act or observe, we consider you integral to the region."
He highlighted India's importance in Singapore's history, noting, "When we established the Singapore armed forces, India was one of the first countries we approached for assistance." Hen emphasized that such historical memories are crucial reminders and "reflect how we perceive India as an essential part of our area. We are pleased that our ten years of bilateral relations have significantly enhanced in defense and overall strategic partnership."
Hen also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his visit to Singapore earlier this year, describing it as an excellent meeting.
