New Delhi [India], September 19: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's forthcoming visit to the United States for the Quad summit will encompass a range of bilateral, plurilateral, and multilateral dimensions. Misri emphasized that the summit's agenda includes the development of the Indo-Pacific region and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.
During a briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs, Misri detailed the events planned for PM Modi's visit from September 21-23. He noted that the visit will include significant bilateral, plurilateral, and multilateral interactions, including meetings with various foreign partners, engagement with the Indian diaspora in the US, and discussions with business and industry leaders.
Misri highlighted that PM Modi's first engagement will be in Wilmington, Delaware, President Joe Biden's hometown, where the sixth Quad summit will be held. Following this, PM Modi will travel to New York for the Summit of the Future.
On September 21, the agenda includes the Quad summit, bilateral meetings, and a special Cancer Moonshot event aimed at innovative strategies for cancer prevention and treatment. On September 22, PM Modi will interact with the Indian diaspora in Long Island, New York.
The Cancer Moonshot initiative aims to collaborate on reducing the burden of cervical cancer in the Indo-Pacific region. Additionally, PM Modi will engage with several tech CEOs to discuss investment opportunities and technology.
On September 23, PM Modi will address the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly and participate in further bilateral meetings.
Misri outlined that the Quad's agenda focuses on developing the Indo-Pacific, implementing Sustainable Development Goals, and addressing health security, climate change, critical technology, maritime security, and counter-terrorism. The visit will provide an opportunity for Quad leaders to review progress and set future goals.
During the bilateral meetings with President Biden, agreements related to the Indo-Pacific economy and drug frameworks are expected to be discussed. Misri also mentioned ongoing efforts to schedule meetings with former US President Donald Trump.
PM Modi's visit will include participation in the fourth Quad Leaders' Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by President Biden, and the Summit of the Future in New York. India will host the next Quad Summit in 2025. The Quad, a partnership between Australia, India, Japan, and the US, has seen frequent meetings and continues to coordinate at various levels.
