Home Minister Amit Shah has extended his warm greetings on the occasion of National Handloom Day.
New Delhi [India], August 7:Â On National Handloom Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conveyed his greetings and highlighted the significance of the handloom sector as a symbol of India's pride, progress, and heritage.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, Amit Shah said, "On #NationalHandloomDay, I extend my greetings to our dedicated weavers and everyone associated with the sector. The handloom industry reflects Bharat's pride, progress, and heritage. The Modi government is committed to the sector's prosperity and has introduced various schemes to support it. May this occasion strengthen our resolve to promote and choose handloom products, further enhancing the sector."
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his greetings, celebrating the rich heritage and vibrant tradition of handlooms across India. "Greetings on National Handloom Day! We take immense pride in the rich heritage and vibrant tradition of handlooms in our nation. We also honor the efforts of our artisans and reaffirm our commitment to being 'Vocal for Local.'"
The 10th National Handloom Day will be celebrated today at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital, with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar serving as the chief guest. The event will be attended by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles Pabitra Margherita, MPs, eminent personalities, designers, industry representatives, exporters, senior government officers, and over 1,000 weavers from across the country.
The ceremony will include the presentation of the Sant Kabir Awards and National Handloom Awards to outstanding handloom weavers. Additionally, a Catalogue and Coffee Table Book titled "Parampara- Sustainability in Handloom Traditions of India" will be released by the Vice President.
National Handloom Day, first celebrated on August 7, 2015, was established to honor the Swadeshi Movement, which began on August 7, 1905, and promoted indigenous industries, especially handloom weaving. The day aims to celebrate and recognize the contributions of handloom weavers to India's cultural, traditional, and economic landscape, while raising awareness about the sector's importance in socio-economic development.
