Imran Khan has warned that he will initiate street protests if the government attempts to undermine the independence of the judiciary

Islamabad [Pakistan], September 6: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently detained in Adiala Jail, has issued a warning that he will organize street protests if the government attempts to undermine the judiciary's independence.

Khan, who has experienced numerous injuries since his debut against Pakistan in Kuala Lumpur in 2018, criticized the government for allegedly damaging every institution, including the police and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He emphasized that the Supreme Court remains the people's last hope.

In a statement from Adiala Jail on September 4, 2024, shared by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khan remarked, "Pakistan’s army belongs to everyone, not just one political party or the army chief. They have manipulated the election and are now obstructing the judiciary. Every institution, including the Police, NAB, and the FIA, has been destroyed. The Supreme Court is now the only hope for the people."

He accused the authorities of weaponizing the Police and NAB against his party, citing the case of the Rawalpindi Commissioner, who was allegedly forcibly disappeared after revealing truths about the Chief Justice and the Election Commission. Khan vowed to call for street protests if the judiciary’s independence is threatened.

Khan also criticized the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as PCB chairman and his performance, particularly regarding the Pakistan cricket team’s recent poor showing against Bangladesh. He questioned Naqvi’s qualifications and alleged involvement in fraud, comparing his appointment unfavorably to that of Ramiz Raja, a professional cricketer he had previously appointed as PCB chairman.

Further, Khan expressed frustration over delays in the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa's verdict on the NAB Amendments appeal and criticized the freezing of donations for Al-Qadir University, which he claims is crucial for rural education.

He detailed his prison conditions, noting he has not been allowed to speak with his children and faces strict visiting limits. Khan denied government claims of providing him with five-star facilities, stating that his treatment is comparable to that of death row inmates.

Additionally, Khan condemned the treatment of PTI women members and claimed his wife, Bushra Bibi, has been unjustly imprisoned for seven months. He remains in Adiala Jail on multiple charges, with his wife also detained.
