India's vice-captain Mandhana emphasizes the significance of the forthcoming matches in the Women's T20 World Cup.
India's vice-captain Smriti Mandhana discussed the significance of the upcoming matches in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, highlighting that every game is crucial for the Women in Blue.
The Indian team is set to face Sri Lanka in their next match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
In an interview with Star Sports, Mandhana acknowledged Sri Lanka as a strong team in their group but emphasized the need for error-free play against Australia. She stated, "As a player, all games are important to us. When you come to the World Cup, you must give 100 percent in each match. Sri Lanka is a good team, but with Australia, you can't afford mistakes; you have to bring your best game to overcome them."
India is placed in Group A of the ICC tournament alongside New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. They will take on Australia on October 13 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
After winning one match and losing their opening game against New Zealand, the Women in Blue currently sit in fourth place in the group standings.
In their recent match against Pakistan, which was the seventh match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, India batted first after losing the toss, scoring 105/8. Nida Dar (28 runs) and Muneeba Ali (17 runs) were the only notable contributors with the bat.
The Indian bowling attack, led by Arundhati Reddy, was effective, with Reddy taking three wickets in her four-over spell, maintaining an economy rate of 4.80. However, the fielding was less impressive, with several dropped catches.
During the chase, Shafali Verma (32 runs) and Harmanpreet Kaur (29 runs) guided India to a six-wicket victory over Pakistan. The match concluded with S Sajana stepping in for the injured Kaur to score the winning runs.
Arundhati Reddy was named Player of the Match for her exceptional bowling performance.
