"It motivated me to keep striving...": Anna Kendrick discusses the difficulties of directing and acting in 'Woman of the Hour.'
October 18, 2024 : Actor Anna Kendrick discussed the difficulties she faced while directing and acting in the film 'Woman of the Hour.' She described the experience of balancing both roles as "a little bit like directing with a blindfold on," according to a report by People.
After finishing a scene, she mentioned, "I could run to the monitor, ask to see 30 seconds from the middle of that take and be like, 'Okay, fingers crossed that there are no surprises when I get into the edit.'"
Kendrick acknowledged that there were indeed some surprises, but emphasized the need to keep moving forward. "We had 24 days to shoot with the resources we had, and we just had to keep trucking," she explained.
The 'Pitch Perfect' star expressed her satisfaction with choosing this project, which is based on the true story of serial killer and rapist Rodney Alcala, portrayed by Daniel Zovatto.
Reflecting on a challenging day during preproduction, Kendrick recalled, "Everything was falling apart. It truly felt like, 'I don't know if the train's going to fall off the tracks.'"
Despite the stress, she found motivation in her younger self, stating, "No matter how stressed I was, I was like, 'Fifteen-year-old you would be beside herself with glee.' So it helped me keep pushing through the roadblocks."
Now, Kendrick is searching for her next project, noting the difficulty after completing a film like 'Woman of the Hour.' "I've been reading scripts, and there's some incredible material out there, but I also think that I really hit the jackpot with Woman of the Hour. The script was so great, and the cast and crew—I don't know what I did to deserve them," she remarked.
She added, "There's definitely that sense of wanting to care as much about the next thing as I did with this. I think it's a tall order because I got incredibly lucky."
'Woman of the Hour' is available in select theaters and streams on Netflix starting October 18, 2024.
