Kolkata doctor rape-murder: Polygraph test of former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh among others to be held today
Kolkata, West Bengal, August 24: A team of experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi has arrived in Kolkata to conduct a polygraph test today on former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and others in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor, sources revealed on Saturday.
According to sources, the polygraph test will be administered to Sandip Ghosh, Sanjay Roy (the main accused), four doctors, and one volunteer. While the test on the main accused will take place in jail, the others have been summoned to the CBI office in Kolkata for the procedure.
Earlier in the day, Kolkata police confirmed that, following a court order, all documents related to alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College have been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
On Friday, the Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation of financial irregularities involving Dr. Sandip Ghosh from the SIT to the CBI. The court also authorized the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on Dr. Ghosh and five others connected to the case.
This decision came in response to a petition filed by Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of the hospital, who accused Dr. Ghosh of financial misconduct and unethical practices. The High Court assigned the CBI to lead the investigation, which also includes the probe into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital.
The Court has given the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on the investigation, with the next hearing scheduled for September 17.
In a related development, the Sealdah Court on Friday remanded Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the rape and murder of the postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, to 14 days of judicial custody, which will last until September 6, 2024, under CBI supervision.
The trainee doctor was discovered dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
