Pakistan's electric power regulatory authority has raised the electricity tariff by PKR 2.56 per unit.
Islamabad [Pakistan], August 9: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a PKR 2.56 per unit increase in the electricity tariff in Pakistan, according to ARY News.
This increase, part of the monthly fuel adjustment for June, will be reflected in consumers' bills for August and adds to the financial burden from rising energy costs.
The tariff hike will not apply to Lifeline consumers or K Electric customers. Initially, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) requested a PKR 2.63 per unit increase, but NEPRA approved a PKR 2.56 per unit rise. This adjustment will increase the financial strain on electricity consumers by over PKR 30 billion.
In Karachi, K-Electric announced that electricity bills for August will include adjustments for the past three months, leading to a potential increase of up to PKR 3.22 per unit. This adjustment includes additional charges of PKR 0.93 per unit for January to March, PKR 2.53 for May, and PKR 2.92 for June. There will also be added charges of PKR 0.66 for August 2023, PKR 1.77 for November 2023, and PKR 0.79 for December 2023.
