Pakistan: Two Buses Collide in Quetta, Leaving 29 Injured

Quetta [Pakistan], August 3 Two separate bus accidents occurred on the highway to Punjab within a two-hour period, resulting in multiple injuries, according to ARY News.

The first accident took place in the Muslim Bagh area of Qila Saifullah when a passenger bus traveling from Quetta to Lahore overturned. The District Administration of Qila Saifullah reported that 14 people were injured, with 4 in critical condition. Shortly after, another bus accident occurred on the same highway within the Pishin district.

In total, 29 individuals were injured in the two accidents on the national highway. Rescue officials transported all injured passengers to the hospital for medical treatment.

In a related issue, Pakistan is grappling with severe inflation that is impacting daily life, making essential food items, such as vegetables and pulses, increasingly unaffordable for the middle class. People are experiencing frequent and drastic price changes.

Muhammad Waseem, a vegetable seller from Karachi, explained that price fluctuations are causing significant difficulties. "Both sellers and customers are troubled. For example, tomatoes might cost PKR 120 per kg one day and PKR 200 the next. This situation is becoming increasingly worrying," Waseem said.

Another merchant, Ghulam Fareed, noted that the recent monsoon has damaged major supplies, leading wholesalers to sell at higher profit margins. "Small shopkeepers like us buy these supplies at elevated costs and are thus compelled to sell them at higher prices. Market hoarders also manipulate the supply, leaving us with limited options. However, consumers often blame us without understanding the market's realities," Fareed added.
