Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan
New Delhi [India], August 20 : On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a ceremonial welcome for Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.
Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, shared images of the two leaders together, marking the Malaysian PM's State visit to India. The MEA highlighted the significance of the visit on X, noting, "A special beginning to an important visit! PM @narendramodi warmly received PM @anwaribrahim of Malaysia in a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan."
The post emphasized Malaysia's role as a crucial component of India's Act East Policy and its status as a valued regional partner.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Delhi on Monday for this state visit, his first to India as the Malaysian leader. He was greeted warmly by Union Minister of State V. Somanna at the airport.
During his visit, PM Ibrahim also honored Mahatma Gandhi by laying a wreath at Rajghat and signed the visitor's book.
On August 20, PM Ibrahim is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will also meet with him.
India and Malaysia, which share deep historical and socio-cultural ties, elevated their bilateral relationship to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership in 2015 during Prime Minister Modi's visit. As both nations approach the second decade of this partnership, PM Ibrahim’s visit is expected to further strengthen India-Malaysia relations and set a framework for future multi-sectoral cooperation, according to the MEA.
