Raheem Sterling has signed a season-long loan agreement with Arsenal following his time away from Chelsea
London [UK], August 31: Raheem Sterling has joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Chelsea after a deal sheet was submitted to complete the transfer past the deadline.
The Premier League transfer window closed on August 30, but clubs had an extra two hours to finalize deals if they submitted a deal sheet by the 11 pm BST deadline. This documentation confirms that a transfer agreement was reached before the deadline but needed additional time for completion.
Arsenal announced Sterling's arrival, stating, "Raheem Sterling has joined us on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Everyone at Arsenal welcomes Raheem to the club. The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes."
Sterling, who was a regular during Chelsea’s pre-season, was unexpectedly left out of the squad by head coach Enzo Maresca for their Premier League opener against Manchester City. Despite being described as one of Chelsea's "most important players" during pre-season, Maresca later preferred a "different kind of winger."
Sterling, who joined Chelsea in 2022 from Manchester City, has won multiple domestic titles, including four Premier League titles and five Football League Cups. He has made 379 Premier League appearances, scoring 123 goals and providing 63 assists. His individual accolades include the FWA Footballer of the Year in the 2018/19 season and a place in the PFA Team of the Year.
At Arsenal, Sterling will reunite with head coach Mikel Arteta, with whom he has previously worked at Manchester City. Arteta expressed his admiration for Sterling, praising their strong working relationship and Sterling's influence on his coaching approach.
On the international stage, Sterling has earned 82 caps for England and was a key player as the team finished as runners-up at Euro 2020.
