Reese Witherspoon experienced a challenging time in her life when she "couldn't keep the lights on" at her production company.
October 7, Reese Witherspoon reflected on one of the most challenging moments of her career that led her to make a crucial business decision, as reported by People.
"There's a moment in all of our lives when you realize, 'No, wait, no one's coming to help, no one's coming to make that decision. For me, I have to make that decision.' I've had a lot of those," she shared during Hello Sunshine's second Shine Away event in Los Angeles.
Witherspoon recalled a specific instance right after the success of *Big Little Lies*, mentioning that she had self-funded her first company, Hello Sunshine, which she established in 2016.Â
Reflecting on her mindset at the time, she said, "Okay, well, *Big Little Lies* won all these Emmys, and *Wild* and *Gone Girl* received numerous Oscar nominations, and we made 600 million at the box office."Â
However, she also remembered a difficult phase when she had four employees and "couldn't keep the lights on."Â
She recounted receiving a call from her accountant saying, "You didn't make enough money producing those three projects to keep four employees." That realization prompted her to think, "I'm doing something wrong." It was then that she had an "aha moment," understanding that she needed assistance and lacked a proper business plan.Â
This realization motivated her to seek help from a friend to create a business strategy. "It's also good to know what you're not good at. I know what I'm really good at, but it's also important to admit when you're not good at something," she noted. She credited Sarah Harden, the CEO, for stepping in to secure funding and assist her with hiring executives, establishing infrastructure, and managing legal and financial matters.
In an exciting literary development, Reese Witherspoon is poised to make her debut as a published author. She and Ben Sevier, president and publisher of Grand Central Publishing, announced that Witherspoon will collaborate with acclaimed author Harlan Coben on a new suspense novel based on an original concept from her.
