STF officers who eliminated gangster Atiq Ahmed's son have been honored with the President's Gallantry Medal.
New Delhi [India], August 14 : The Special Task Force (STF) officers who killed gangster Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and shooter Mohammad Ghulam have been awarded the President's Gallantry Medal. The encounter, which took place in Jhansi on April 13, 2023, resulted in the deaths of Asad and Ghulam, who were wanted in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj and each had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on their heads.
In addition to this, the Union Home Ministry announced that 1,037 personnel from various services will be honored with gallantry and service medals on Independence Day. This includes the President's Medal for Gallantry (PMG) and the Medal for Gallantry (GM), which are awarded for exceptional bravery.
Among those receiving the PMG is Chaduvu Yadaiah, a Head Constable from Telangana Police, recognized for his bravery during a robbery on July 25, 2022.
The 213 Medals for Gallantry (GM) awarded include 208 for police personnel, with notable numbers from Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Telangana, and various Central Armed Police Forces. Fire service and home guard personnel are also recognized.
The President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) is awarded for outstanding service records, while the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) is given for valuable service marked by resourcefulness and devotion. The PSM and MSM awards include numerous personnel from police, fire services, civil defense, home guard, and correctional services.
