Tayla Vlaeminck is focused on making a significant impact for Australia in the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup
Canberra [Australia], September 6: Injury-prone Australian pacer Tayla Vlaeminck is determined to leave behind a challenging few years and make a significant impact at the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup.
Since her international debut against Pakistan in Kuala Lumpur in 2018, Vlaeminck has faced numerous injuries. The 25-year-old experienced her first taste of a major tournament when she played a single match at the T20 World Cup in the West Indies later that same year.
However, with a solid run of domestic games earlier this year and a successful return to international cricket during Australia’s tour of Bangladesh in March and April, Vlaeminck now feels ready to spearhead Australia's pace attack at the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
In a column on the Cricket Australia website, Vlaeminck expressed her excitement about participating in the upcoming World Cup.
"That tour was one of my first experiences with the Aussie squad, and I was just thrilled to be heading to a World Cup. But I probably didn’t realize at the time how special and rare these opportunities are," Vlaeminck said, as quoted by the ICC.
She also shared her hopes of making a meaningful contribution to the Australian squad during the Women's T20 World Cup.
"This one means much more. The work put in behind the scenes and the tough hours of rehab with this as the goal—it’s incredible to finally be in that squad and hopefully contribute to a World Cup," she added.
Reflecting on her injuries, Vlaeminck noted that she has grown a lot. Despite everything, she emphasized that her love for the game remains strong.
"I’ve changed a lot since then. I still have the same energy and passion for the game, but I approach it more wisely now, with a bit more maturity," she explained.
