The Excise Department has uncovered a whiskey ice cream smuggling operation in Hyderabad
Hyderabad (Telangana), September 6: The Hyderabad Excise Department has made headlines for seizing an ice cream parlour involved in selling whiskey-infused ice cream and arresting several people connected to the operation.
The discovery came when Excise Department officials conducted a raid at Ariko Cafe Ice Cream Parlour, located on Roads 1 and 5 in the Jubilee Hills area. During the raid, they confiscated 23 pieces of whiskey ice cream, totaling 11.5 kg, and filed a case against those involved.
The parlour, operated by Sharath Chandra Reddy, was found to be mixing 60 ml of whiskey into each kilogram of ice cream and selling it at elevated prices. The other individuals implicated, Dayakar Reddy and Shobhan, were also promoting their product on Facebook to attract more customers.
Further investigation is ongoing.
In a related action, the Excise Department seized non-duty-paid liquor valued at Rs 3.85 lakhs at RTC Cross Roads in Hyderabad on Thursday. The liquor, brought by Gopal Agrawal from Chandigarh in a vehicle, was intended for resale in Hyderabad at a profit. Agrawal had purchased the liquor for Rs 1.32 lakh and planned to sell it for Rs 4 lakh in Hyderabad, aiming to make a significant profit.
