The world premiere of 'Rust' is scheduled for the Camerimage Festival to pay tribute to Halya Hutchins' legacy.

Los Angeles [US], October 3: Alec Baldwin's film 'Rust' is scheduled to have its world premiere this November at the Camerimage Festival in Poland, which honors the contributions of cinematographers and directors of photography.

The festival will pay tribute to Halyna Hutchins, the Ukrainian cinematographer who tragically lost her life on the set of 'Rust' nearly three years ago. Hutchins was a cherished member of the Camerimage community, and the festival announced its commitment to preserving her memory and legacy, as reported by People.

Bianca Cline, the director of photography who took over after Hutchins' passing, expressed the significance of this screening in honoring Hutchins' work. 

"We wanted to do this to honor her and ensure that people could see what she was working on. I believe it's her best film. I think it's her most beautiful film, and I’ve seen all of them," Cline stated.

Cline also noted that Camerimage is the perfect venue for the premiere of 'Rust.'

"What’s remarkable about the festival is that it's the most recognized film festival dedicated solely to cinematography. People are aware of Halyna's death, but they might not know how exceptionally talented she was. She was a wonderful person and a gifted cinematographer," he added.

Cline expressed admiration for the level of respect and admiration Hutchins received for her talent.

"I'm in awe of how much people respected her and recognized her talent. Cinematographers are often viewed as technicians, but Halyna elevated her craft to an art form," he remarked.

Hutchins' family, residing in Kyiv, Ukraine, is also eager for the film's release. Cline mentioned that Hutchins' mother, Olga Solovey, has been the "biggest champion" for the film's completion.

"Halyna's mother was likely the most significant supporter of the film. She wanted it finished because she understood how much it meant to Halyna. She shared with me how excited Halyna was to see the film," Cline noted.

After the premiere of 'Rust,' a panel discussion will take place featuring the film's director, Joel Souza, Bianca Cline, and Stephen Lighthill, Halyna's mentor at the American Film Institute (AFI). The panel will explore Halyna's distinct visual style and how Cline aimed to carry on her vision during production.

The discussion will also address important issues within the film industry, such as the role of women in cinematography and the critical need for safety on set.

"We are all generally aware that we are in a precarious situation," Cline commented. "Her death highlighted just how dangerous it is. There's a difference between feeling unsafe and realizing, oh yes, it is indeed very, very dangerous."
