Gir (Gujarat) [India], October 9: As Gujarat observes "Vikas Saptah," commemorating 23 years of significant development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the state's rise as a leading global tourist destination is particularly noteworthy.

During his tenure as Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014, PM Modi showcased Gujarat's hidden treasures to the world, launching the 'Khushboo Gujarat Ki' campaign in 2005 to promote tourism.

He focused on creating a network connecting major tourist sites through improved infrastructure, ensuring a seamless experience for visitors.

This initiative sparked a surge in both domestic and international tourism.

Festivals like Rann Utsav, Navratri, and the Tarnetar Fair gained national recognition, establishing Gujarat as a vibrant tourist hub—an energy that has only grown since PM Modi became Prime Minister in 2014.

At a Kutch event last year, PM Modi remarked, "The Kutch region was once overlooked, but today, Dhordo is celebrated as one of the world's best tourism villages, and the Rann Utsav has received global acclaim. Kutch now attracts thousands of tourists each year."

Gujarat boasts several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, with Gir National Park being the exclusive habitat for the majestic Asiatic lions.

As Chief Minister, Narendra Modi advocated for conservation efforts by implementing anti-poaching laws and enhancing infrastructure.

The 'Khushboo Gujarat Ki' campaign further boosted Gir's visibility, attracting eco-tourists and wildlife enthusiasts from around the world.

Today, Gir's rich ecosystem and flourishing population of Asiatic lions make it a top destination for jungle safaris and nature lovers, offering unforgettable experiences amidst nature.

Neeta, a tourist, expressed, "We've never encountered such security for lions anywhere else as we have here. The facilities here are unique to Gujarat, and it's a matter of pride that there's no other place like this in the world."

Sheetal, another tourist, commented, "The government is doing an excellent job, and we are confident this will continue. Our guide was superb, and our bus driver provided excellent explanations."

Gujarat has also introduced stunning adventure and eco-tourism destinations such as Saputara and Gira Waterfalls, captivating nature lovers with breathtaking landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and outdoor activities.

The development of the Sabarmati Riverfront and the launch of the 'Akshar River Cruise' in Ahmedabad have further increased Gujarat's appeal, offering unique experiences along the picturesque river.

The Statue of Unity, inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi as the world's tallest statue, serves as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's legacy.

A tourist at the Statue of Unity remarked, "Gujarat and all of India are experiencing remarkable tourism growth. It's welcoming the world to explore our tourist sites."

Another visitor noted, "The atmosphere here is delightful, and seeing the statue brought me great joy. The cleanliness is also quite impressive."

Gujarat experienced a 58 percent increase in foreign tourists in 2023, with 2.8 million visitors, up from 1.77 million in 2022, according to the Union tourism ministry.

This positions Gujarat second only to Maharashtra, which welcomed 3.3 million foreign tourists in 2023.
